About

We’re three Chicagoans active in sports who are proud Greek Americans. Co-publishers: George Bliss, James Kezios, Terry Poulos (also editor)

Comprehensive portal for all-things Greek and sports. Our main focus is Greek Americans but we will occasionally cover the news and personalities around the globe, including Philhellenes.

We welcome news big and small about sports-related events, books, films, businesses, and of course the athletes and teams themselves. We publish articles (around 500 words, depending) and also column-style quick-hitters. While our focus is mostly H.S. varsity, college and pros, if you’re aware of a kid who’s done something extraordinary, or someone on the peripheral of sports with a unique angle, we’d like to recognize them as well.

16 Inch Softball Hall of Fame & Museum in Chicago. George Bliss, principle

GEORGE BLISS: Lifelong Chicagoan, proud Greek Orthodox Christian, and co-founder of Chicago’s Greek Media Club.  In 2004, The United Hellenic American Congress recognized George as one of their select honorees in their “Salute to Hellenes in the Broadcast Media.” Married to Kathleen with two sons – George Jr. and James – George’s “second life” is 16″ no-gloves softball. He’s been a broadcaster on Sportschannel, WCBR and WKKD radio, and now social media. He’s a member of the 16″ Softball Hall of Fame and was a TV sideline reporter on Sportschannel for announcers Steve Kashul and Mike North during 1990’s coverage of the sport. George continues to serve as a liaison for the HOF and an ambassador for the sport. In his professional life, George has a technical sales background, having worked 40 years for Silicon Valley companies such as Intel, Seagate, and Western Digital. He’s a big-time Chicago White Sox fan, Major League Baseball being his second-favorite sport after softball.

Pro Football Weekly TV. Producer James Kezios

JAMES KEZIOS Born in Piana, Greece. In 1954, at the age of 8, Jim immigrated with his family to America. He graduated from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale with a radio-TV degree, becoming the first in his family to attain a college degree. After college, he sold real estate and taught at Socrates Greek School in Chicago until he was able to land a position in the broadcast field, in 1972, at WCIU-TV Chicago, followed by WJJD Radio. In 1975, Jim began his 10-year, award-winning career at WMAQ-AM, the biggest country music station in America, as an advertising salesman and then was promoted to General Sales Manager. Under his leadership, his sales staff set consecutive year sales records, becoming the first NBC radio station to bill $1 million in one month. While at WMAQ, Jim received the Wharton School of Business Radio Sales certification and began a long-lasting relationship with Coach Mike Ditka and the Chicago Bears. Jim left broadcasting in 1984 to become a health insurance marketing executive, but the broadcast business soon pulled him back. In 1987, he partnered with his friend, Jim O’Boye to establish KOST Broadcast Sales, which became a top independent marketing company, specializing in production, sales and syndication of radio and TV shows. “The Mike Ditka TV Show” was KOST’s first venture, airing in syndication until 1992. KOST also began working with the Chicago Bears, creating programs such as Chicago Bears Weekly,” “Chicago Bears Insider,” and “Chicago Bears Luncheon Series,” as well as producing and selling inventory for the Bears pre-season games. KOST created Chevrolet Sportsfire, a sports discussion TV show that aired for seven years, hosted by Chet Coppock. Jim’s greatest professional accomplishment was being co-founder & president of Pro Football Weekly,” a TV show going into its 34th season, reaching 84 million households nationally & hosted by longtime partner & friend, Hub Arkush, NFL Hall of Famer, Dan Hampton, Coach Dave Wannstedt, and NBC SportsNet anchor Pat Boyle. Other KOST affiliations included a 20-year partnership with the IHSA Basketball Tournament and a 20-year relationship with the Chicago Bulls as the team’s regional syndicator. While radio and TV broadcasting consumed most of Jim’s professional career, he has enjoyed being a Harness Horseman’s Association racing member for 40 years. Along with his good friend & partner, John Krillies, they manage Tripoli Stable and race several harness horses throughout America. Jim & John have made a special effort to name their horses after Greek heroes, such as Kolokotrones, Themistokles and Kanaris. Jim’s accolades include Emmy Awards for “Sports Events Coverage,” the Illinois Broadcasters Association “Silver Dome Award,”, and two Emmy awards for the “Chicago Bears Weekly Television Show.” In 2004, The United Hellenic American Congress recognized Jim as one of their select honorees in their “Salute to Hellenes in the Broadcast Media.” Jim and his wife Susan reside in Noridge, Illinois, have two daughters, Melissa (Randy) and Stephanie, and are the proud grandparents of Lily and Ella. Jim is a casual White Sox fan but is mostly agnostic about the highly partisan Chicago baseball divide. He’s simply a baseball fan. He is a die-hard Bulls and Bears fan and holds season tickets for both Chicago teams.
